Roman Holiday: How a Scooter Getaway Changed my Life

A wonderful story from Helmethairmagazine.com about a woman’s tour though California wine country with her husband on Vespas.

If I had one thing in common with Audrey Hepburn’s Princess Anne, it was being overwhelmed by a

demanding job.   But I did fall for a newsman, careen around on a scooter and escape from responsibility for a couple of days. Although, unlike Hepburn, I didn’t begin my adventure knocked out on tranquilizers.

Last summer, I’d started re-dating an old boyfriend, a motojournalist named Brian. He’d been invited to go on a Vespa tour of Northern California wineries and asked me to come along. I spend a lot of time on two wheels, but rarely on scooters; I love commuting and canyon carving on my GSX-R. Still, a little roaming on step-throughs sounded pretty relaxing, as it included traipsing around wine country, eating fine meals and curling up in romantic hotels. That is, depending on how much I liked spending two days on tiny wheels and shacking up with my once ex-boyfriend…for the first time in five years. Tally ho!

I  do have to admit.  I don’t speak Spanish and I have no idea what they are singing about.
The first time I saw this I could swear she was singing about “Baseball” and not “Vespa”

CARB approves Genuine Stella 150 4T

by Ellen

From 2StrokeBuzz.com:

Modern Buddy moderator Eric Almedral has posted the California Air Resources Board approval certificate for the Genuine Stella 150 4T, and confirms that it’ll be available in the U.S. in 2010. My bet is that it’ll be here sooner than later, and probably the Stella and it’s claimed 130MPG will be one of the few bright spots for the scooter industry at DealerExpo in a few weeks.

CFMOTO Powersports, Inc. is recalling all 2005-2009 models of CHG / CF250T V3 and CHG / CF250T V5 in the USA. The lack of missing foot operated rear brake means that these machines fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 123 “Motorcycle Controls and Displays. These Vehicles where intended to be manufactured as scooters and therefore lack a rear wheel foot brake as required for all motorcycles.

CFMOTO Powersports will notify owners and dealers will install a right foot control rear wheel brake kit free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or about July 1, 2010. Owners may contact CFMOTO Powersports at 1-888-823-6686.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or go to WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .

Maybe Vespas are more than just stylish, efficient transportation. Maybe in O.C., the little bikes are an answer to some big questions.

Vespa!

The name evokes not only an image but also the sights, sounds, and aromas of a scene that’s imprinted on our collective consciousness—an intersection in a picturesque Italian city teeming with elegantly dressed riders on nimble little scooters jockeying for position with drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. Maybe it’s a memory we brought back from a trip to Florence, or maybe we recall Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck gliding over cobblestone streets in “Roman Holiday.” Either way, a Vespa is less a form of transportation than an approach to life.

Fashion Meets Function

THIS TIME IT’S TRUE! FOR REAL! HONEST!

Let’s give a big THANKS! to the lady pictured to your right. Meet Arlene Battishill, founder of Scooter Girls Inc. GoGo Gear.  Arlene has an amazing gift in the world of womens’ riding apparel — she actually listens! Not only has she listened – she has spent months working tirelessly to make our riding needs a reality.

ScooterDiva met up with Arlene at the NYC 2010 International Motorcycle Show. Maybe I shouldn’t say we met up…. more like we followed in her wake as she flew back and forth helping women try on coats and jackets, taking measurements, giving out literature. One thing immediately became clear as we watched Arlene – she listened to each and every customer, took notes, asked questions, learned about their needs. Arlene really cares.
