 I just slipped into a vacancy spot in this weekend's MSF class. Those classes booked up so fast, that I wasn't able to sign up 3 days after registration opened! So I've been trying every week since to capitalize on a cancellation.
Anyhoo. Now I'm taking the course, and I can avoid taking the DMV skills test (again). The only downside is that they don't teach on scooters, so I'll be learning how to drive a motorcycle. Thankfully, I already know how to drive an automatic, so the process of shifting isn't totally foreign.

I just signed up for a Motorcycle safety course also!
I'm not in until mid-June. No hurry with me though just because I already have a scoot under 50cc, this is just so I can ride DH's 150cc scoot legally.

I am taking the MSF class here the last weekend of April. Get this--they will let me take it on my scooter  Oh Happy Day!!

oh, lucky you! They've already said I can't take the class on my scooter. However, I'm going to ask if I can bring it and run through some of the course after the last class...I'd like to be familiar with practicing whatever moves they teach us on my scooter, which probably weighs a lot less than the motorcycle they'll provide.

the scooters handle REALLY differently at low speeds than a motorcycle. anything you learn about swerving, doing figure eights, etc., definitely practice on your scoot...
it's also much easier on a scoot, i thought. so if you can conquer those moves on the cycle, you can do it on a scoot!

Hi all,
I just wanted to follow up and let you know that I passed the MSF course this weekend. We rode in the rain for 6 hours on saturday (yuck!) and I learned to ride a Suzuki motorcycle over the weekend. My left arm is sore from using the clutch! LOL
This friday I'm going over to the DMV to get my "M" license designation, and I'll probably take my scoot out somewhere this weekend to practice what I learned.

Good for you!!! I flunked my on bike test the first time around and just keep getting a permit as I am too chicken to go thru it again. Was it very hard learning to shift with your foot? I do want to take the MSF class when I can find on around here open.

I flunked my DMV skills test too! but after I knew what to expect, I felt I could pass it a second time. The MSF class went a long way beyond the skills required to pass the DMV skills test, so I'm really happy that I took it.
It wasn't hard learning to shift. The bikes were a little crotchety though, and I occassionally stalled out. They spent the first half day working on shifting into first gear, and sending power to the rear wheel as you let the clutch in and out. Have you ever driven a car with manual transmission?

Nano, yes, I have driven a lot of stick shifting cars, but its been a few years since I last did. I know my new Stella will be shifting, but its on the handle not with the foot. We'll see how that goes. I hope to get the MSF class next year. We live in the boonies and have to travel too far for most of the classes for the 3 days. They have a traveling class that usually is within 30 miles or so, but fill up really fast. Didn't make it this year. Hope for next!
