I didn't really think I was in the market, but...

a couple weeks ago we took a trip to Palmer Lake, with a bunch of the locals, many of which have vintage machines. It's about 50 miles on 55-60mph roads. Some were able to go no problem, others trailed behind. We were on my Kymco 250, which performed admirably. One vintage machine suffered a mechanical on the way home, and we loaded it into a rescue vehicle.

Until we got to about 7500 feet. Then with both of us on it and gear, it had a hard time going over 50. The poor carb just couldn't keep up :P.

So I ended up purchasing a used '08 Scarabeo 500. It's a beast. I need to put sliders in to get rid of the low end shudder, but other than that, it has no problem carrying us both at 90mph. I dare say it's a bit more comfortable too.

I apologize that you all have to see my face :), but here's me on the scoot:

Everyone asks "but why didn't you just get a motorcycle?". I was vetoed in that regard. It's OK, I like storage and twist/go.

The other question I get from my coworkers: "does this mean you'll sell all your smaller scoots?"

Not likely. I will probably sell the Kymco at a loss to someone who needs a bit more oomph, because it's too fine a machine to sit. No way I'm giving up my Buddy though :P.

Very nice!
How many miles are on it?
Are you sure it needs sliders? Low speed shudder is common from glazing and can usually be cleaned off.

It has just shy of 15k miles.

Everything was in good order when I bought it except the battery. the consignment dealer swapped it for me.

All the parts are in great shape, including the belt/rollers. The Master500 engine in this and a few other scoots (like the bv500) shudders at low speed due to gearing. I assume if all the power were available right away it would probably dump you on the ground pretty easy. Rumor has it that the sliders help a lot.
