Just got back from my first "real" ride -- just around neighborhood but more than I've ridden in past. It was great! I went and got gas, and rode around the mall twice, and rode on a busy street and everything! I think a stoplight didn't know I was there because I'm too light. :(
But anyway as I've said before I love the look of my Chinese scooter but it really is a piece of shit. Get this -- I rode it home after this ride and as I was putting the cover back over it the chrome end of my right handlebar fell off! Just fell off! It is truly a POS and I would not get it again, but I like the look of it and it sure is fun to ride. Wheee!

You are SO funny! Can you share a pic?

Some of them are "okey dokey" and if you love it, who cares? My neigbor drives a POS Chinese ATV and has for 6 years. She finally found a guy who is willing to work on it when it goes kaput!

I can't say I haven't been tempted by the looks of some of them myself!

Wow, you and I had remarkably similar days yesterday.

I too took my brand-new-to-me POS Chinese scooter for her first drive around the neighborhood. I stopped at the local convenience store to fill up with gas and the battery died. I had to walk her home. (Fortunately it was only 8 blocks)

I'm assuming by the name of the originator, she has a Puma Romeo. lol. Is it a 150cc or 50cc? I'm sorry that you feel like yours is a POS. :( I have a 150cc and I haven't had a single issue so far (about 950 miles on it now).

It's not that I "feel like" it's a POS, it IS a POS. It's very difficult to start, sometimes flat refuses to start. The plastics are poor quality and easily pop out of alignment, and the damn chrome handlebar end just fell off apropos of absolutely nothing!
I have a 150cc. I'm glad yours is doing well, sounds like you are one of the lucky ones whose pumaromeo hasn't had significant problems -- yet.

So like you girls can't really ride anywhere without worrying that the thing will have an issue and leave you stranded or worse?

That sucketh...

Do Chinese POS's come assembled? I guess it's just anyone's guess if your going to get a good one or not. The price is right though.

Yep, I've liked the looks of some of the Chinese scoots also but I'm too danged lazy to deal with all the upgrades, swaps and exchanges you are supposed to do on one when you get it.

I'll slap a 70cc kit on with no problems, but can't make me exchange all the rubber, hoses, tires, belts, fluids or tighten up a machine that is supposed to be brand new and ready to ride.

A local dealer who comes into our business knows I love scooters and one day offered me a brand new Wildfire 150 that he wanted to clear out of his shop. Offered it to me about half price....it was tempting but I managed to resist when DH told me of all the upgrades I would have to do on it. At that point I was just tired of working on bikes.

Don't berate your scoots, girls. My Honda Elite 50 was a POS when I got it but I love that little scoot dearly now. It's still a little POS but it's an 87cc POS that will go 60 and has only broken one drive belt since the engine swap out. Some of the best bikes out there are POS's but they are YOUR POS's and you can't help but love them. :D

I agree completely. Like I said, thanfully I haven't had any issues at all but it does worry me that they have a bad rep. It doesn't feel good to worry about what could happen. I'd love to give it more CC's so I'll have to look up how in the world to do that. It has no issue climbing hills and I can get it to 55 mph very easily. But I do love to go fast..

Wish we were neighbors! I'd get your husband to upgrade my Ruckus to 80cc so I could get up to 55-60mph!

Bexx, how do you give your scooter more CC's? My scooter has 150cc's and I am in the "break-in period". I always notice scooters on the road or parked. I love them all. Riding a scooter is so much fun! It's pure joy!

My Lance Milan has battery issues, too. Kick-starting it was hit and miss before but after this last repair, it kick-starts like a dream. Could you have kick-started it? (Are there scooters that don't have kick-starts?)

Upgrading the 50cc Elite was a big job. The old engine was slowly loosing power so we put in an 87cc racing engine. My husband had to fabricate new motor mounts and exhaust system for it. It is basically a Honda Elite skin with a hybrid interior and will hit 65 top speed. With the usual crappy Elite suspension it is a scary fun ride on small wheels.

The Zuma was tricked out with a Minarelli 70cc kit. I think I have the process on the Technical thread. My husband talked me through the conversion. It was not an overly hard thing to do, but the carburetor did need rejetted and we added an expansion exhaust system to it. We have clocked it running alongside my husband's motorcycle at 60mph top speed and still occasionally have to do some fine tuning on it.

Your 150 is probably a 4 stroke where the Zuma is a two stroke and takes to modifying easier than your 150 would. Your scoot should be pushing the 60mph mark as is. Right now my 70 is suiting my needs as far as a scooter is concerned....although I have to admit that there is an Aprilla 200cc silver tiger striped scoot I see around town sometimes that makes me drool! I swear I whistle for it every time I see it parked in a nearby bank's parking lot but so far the pretty thing won't follow me home.

2nd battery is dead as of Monday. She's not kicking either. At all.

Dealership is picking her up tonight for inpatient care.

You know, i don't need a performance machine...i just need her to run. Dependably. I don't want to regret this purchase :(
