Yesterday I was in my cage, stopped at my mailbox out on the road, right in front of my house...and WHAT comes up behind me?

A RUCKUS scooter!

I lost it! I honked at the rider to stop (he passed me on the right as my mailbox is on the left side of the road and I was heading in the same direction as he) and he did, about 50 feet up the road. I drove up next to him, rolled down my window, and shouted, "I've got a Ruckus too!"

His response was about as unenthusiastic as it could be. He said "What?" about 3 times and I kept trying to chat him up about his scooter and talk about mine. He was not much for engaging in chit chat.

I did find out he lives in a little (I mean "little") village about 8 miles from here and I told him I rode over there all the time. Odd, I'd never seen him riding around here before and he said he had his scooter for 4 years.

This was an older man (I'd say 70s) with a pair of overalls on, no helmet (had the John Deere ballcap, however), and he was riding an Army green Ruckus that looked like it was well-loved (or at least ridden a lot!). A lot of hunters like the Ruck for trail riding to deer stands. (Heck, I even ride mine on some of the local trails).

Anyway, it was kind of cool seeing another Ruckus rider and especially right in front of my house!

It's fun isn't it? I frequent a cafe down by the water where boaters and folks who work on big boat maintenance go for the largest breakfast you'll ever see.. what's cool is that there are several "old men" who ride a Ruckus.. beat up bikes, sand on the tires, probably mold on the frames from the wet air... these guys are all in bib top jeans, old jackets and the occasional helmut from the 50's.. I love to watch them.
I see mostly young Japanese boys on the Ruckus in Seattle.. so far no women but me.
The Ruckus is like a Jeep's offspring ... it's fun to see who makes this bike their choice of ride.

Golly I thought I was the only one who got so excited to see another scooter rider!!! LOL Every time I see another scooter rider I am tempted to chase them down! I did do a flip flop near my home once because we (my girlfriend and I) saw a lady on a Honda Shadow at a stop sign! Her husband was following her in a Hummer. We caught up with them at their driveway and they looked a little stunned to see two scooters rolling right up beside her. Her husband was opening up the gate to let them in. Once we got our helmets off and they could see that we were just two old ladies they began to smile and were friendly. The lady was out practicing since she was going to school in a couple weeks to get her endorsement. We gave her as much encouragement as we could but have not met them on the road again except one night, and it was too late to double back to catch up to them.

I guess it's just curiosity about "who" is riding that scooter you meet on the road. I nearly break my neck looking back to see if they are as curious about us! LOL I am just thankful I don't have to ride alone and my hubby is going to get his endorsement real soon, then there will be three Reflex's!!! Does three make a GANG???? @:)@ @:)@ @:)@

I can name on my hand the number of times I've seen a scooter of any kind out here. Just a few.

Last year I did see one other Ruckus across the Ohio River in Kentucky on the day I rode my new Ruckus home from the Honda store. He was buzzing up the hill opposite me in 4 lane traffic. I waved and he waved back!

Last summer I saw a middle-aged guy on a Genuine Buddy St. Tropez 150. He was parked in the bank parking lot when I pulled up on my Ruckus. I waited until he came out of the bank and then we chatted a bit. Said his brother got him into scooting.

Then one day I saw two maxi scoots (Honda Silverwing and Chinese something) parked outside the library. I was walking my dog and I waited until they came out. Two 30ish women and we talked for a while. The one was "just learning" and was totally expressing her fear of riding a local 4 lane, 60mph highway that her friend wanted to travel. Never saw them again, though they claimed to live in that village.

Near that same library I've seen a woman on a red Honda Helix. I know where that scoot lives too as I've seen it parked at a house nearby.

Your not the only one who gets excited about seeing another scooter, particularly another vino. When i am riding my motorcycle I wave at scooterists, I think some of them are surprised to see a motorcyclist waving at them. I love talking scooters with other folks.

I love this image of the ol' dudes ridin' Rucks. Had it in my head all day while scooting up and down the road to the neighborhood Herb and Craft Festival.

Yesterday I had two Harley riders talking to me in the festival parking lot wanting to know all about the Ruckus: what was it called, where did I buy it, how much, how fast did it go, how many miles per gallon, how much for a used one, etc.

They were particularly impressed when I told them I rode it from town to town AND on the trails to the lakes behind my house or down the gravel road to the creek nearby.

Damn scoot can do anything (I've herded cows on it!) and who wouldn't want one?! :D

I'm in downtown Toronto where scooters and e-bikes are fairly common. I ride a Majesty 400cc and the Maxi scoots are still a very rare sight here and always driven by men if you do spot one.
I passed one the other day ( a Burgmann, I think) going in the opposite direction and he and I must have looked like mirror images of each other as we both did the simultaneous head swivel to get a rare look at someone else on a Maxi!

We get the same thing and mostly men asking these questions. The ladies who approach us usually just tell us how happy they are to see women riding them and how much they would love to have the guts to ride one! Children are the funniest though! Some parents have to drag their kids away from us. One day, a woman and her daughter who looked about 4 years old were coming out of the Walmart, and as they passed by us and the mother smiled and said hello to us but the little girl seemed to be mesmerized by us. As her mother began to try to walk away the little girl kept pulling back saying "Look Mommy, motorcycles!" mother says "I know, lets go" little girl still resisting and says "but Mommy, their girls!" She just refused to walk away from us. My friend and I busted out laughing when the mother had to reach down, pick the girl up and carry her to get her to the car! Needless to say, Mom did not enjoy that at all and even gave us a dirty look!!!

So far, we have only had one man who just seemed thoroughly disgusted by seeing us on our scooters. He came out of the Post Office while we were parking our bikes. He looked at us like we were the most horrible thing he had ever seen. I said hello to him but that just made his face even more angry looking! The look on his face disturbed me for the rest of the day! He looked as if he wanted to hit us or something. Creepy for sure! Sometimes I think some men who see two ladies doing something they think only men should be doing, let their minds go in the wrong direction!!!!

just a few weeks ago i was going to the bank on mine and i pulled into the drive through and this kid in the truck in front of me kept on staring out of the back window. I waved to him and his dad tried to get him to turn around. I think that he seen me pulling into the driveway there. I am the only one around here that drives/rides with a pink helmet on.

Lucky you! I seldom see anyone under the age of 70 riding a scooter. I'm the only woman over 30 who rides one in the town where we work. Most riders are on big bikes, mainly Harleys. For the most part all the scooterists are retired gents on their Helix or Honda Reflexes.

We had a patient come into the office today riding a pimped out Harley. Have to admit that it was a beautiful bike. Before he drove away I grinned at him and said that if he happened to see a petite red head riding around on a very blue Zuma, wave back at me fergawdsake! He promised he would. :) There may be hope for Harley riders yet!
