I am just now beginning to worry about all the miles I am putting on me little scoot! I don't want to wear Miss Daisy out. Anyone know the life span of a Honda Reflex? I know someone recently posted that they found one for sale with something like 49,000 miles on it. Just wondering if that is about the max for my scoot? Most who see Miss Daisy say they cannot believe she is a 2003 model they say they thought she was brand new. But I worry about her innards! How long will they hold out. I keep her serviced and change the oil every 3000 miles even tho they say to do it every 4000 miles.

I don't ever want to give her up! If for some reason she does not out last me, I will just sit her out front and let her get the mail for me! She would love being out near the road gathering the mail and watching the other scoots go by. Ohhhh and I could put some purty flowers sitting up on the back of her. Would be the prettiest mailbox on the whole block!

Will not part ways with Miss Daisy! What about you? Will you sell it, or like me, just retire it?

Miles?? Isn't that what it's FOR??

Don't worry! Your Honda is built by a company that has made its reputation on building bombproof machines. There are a LOT of vintage Hondas out there, and by that, I don't mean yours is one of them. I mean, it probably WILL out last you. You are right to retire Miss Daisy and not give up on her.

Miles just mean some of the parts might wear out faster...like your drive belt or rollers. That bike I rode with you on wasn't a Honda, but it's 32 years old. My son learned to ride on a 30 year old Honda scoot. We had to put a new $30 drive belt on it and a new headlight after I bought it. A couple of summers ago when I was up in NH without a car, I bought a 25 year old Honda Elite to ride around on while I was there, and then sold it to the folks that are still riding it. I recently replaced the leg shield on our 1981 Honda, and I sometimes ride around on a 1964 Fuji Rabbit (my avatar picture). If I had any room, I'd probably have a 60's era Honda Dream in the garage, too.

I'm in complete agreement with you. With a little TLC, a well built scoot can last a long time.

Oh, my gosh! It's a human scooter!!

I sure hope Miss Daisy never suffers the indignity of broken parts! You'd be a wreck (pardon the pun)!

After seeing my 650 right after it's wreck while it was innocently sitting parked, and later with all the custom painted but now destroyed front end plastic lying in a heap, I can't imagine what that would do to you if that had been Miss Daisy. :(

[Just razzing you, I hope you know. :D ]

Why, she'd go to the Miss Daisy parts store, of course!

I don't remember, Garnet, did they total out your Burgie? Or just repair? On one of my wrecks, I bought back my totaled bike and carried it 1200 miles to a "specialist" I knew could put it back together properly. I wouldn't do that for every bike, but for that one, there was no question.

No, the folks' insurance is just paying for all the new parts, re-painting the detailing, and all the labor. The final costs are coming to over $1200 total, and that was too far above the KBB on the bike. Now they're just waiting for the last of the parts to get here, get put back on, and then off to the painter.

I've been able to ride my motorcycle the whole time the scoot's been out of commission, but I'm sure anxious to get back to the scoot. Riding in major blowing cold rain is far more miserable on the mc, without all that protection on the front. What a difference!

I'd sell or part my bikes if I decided they couldn't be fixed. I hate to see something that could be useful just sitting around deteriorating.
Same goes for me! When I am dead I hope some part of me can used by someone else, not like I'm gonna need it. :D

Part them out? Oh, the indignity! :-)

I couldn't do it. Although I'm other people don't feel the same, when I'm looking for vintage parts.

Um...but Miss Daisy's parts will *never* be able to grow large enough to fit on a Burgman...

Actually, right now in the shop where Luna is parked waiting for parts, he's parked right next to the cutest yellow Reflex that's also waiting for parts to arrive. They've both been there long enough that they're beginning to look like they belong together!

if you don't bend a frame, I don't see why you can't keep her forever!

Remember that scooters were designed to be ridden, rebuilt, and ridden more. The only thing that would keep me from rebuilding my scoots is if the parts were too expensive, but I love em so far.

Well keeping her up and running is my hearts desire and from what your all telling me, Miss Daisy is most likely going to outlive ME!!! @:)@

It is nearing time to put another set of tires on her. Seems just like yesterday that I had a new set put on!!! I think that is the only thing I dislike most, not enough miles out of a set of tires!

Rest easy... you're riding a HONDA, which means that it will likely still be running strong 30 years from now. Of course, you'll eventually have to change things like the drive belt, tires, spark plug, etc., but I've been riding bikes of all makes for over 40 years, and nothing will outlast a Honda.

Worst case scenario might be that eventually you will need new rings, or perhaps valve seals, but as long as you remember to change the oil at the recommended intervals, your Honda will probably outlive most of the folks currently on this website.

I just restored a 1958 Honda Cub 50, and the only thing I needed to replace inside the engine was a few leaky gaskets and the spark plug. The rest of the bike looked as if it had been dragged through a swamp before being thrown off of a cliff, and anything deemed unnecessary to make the bike run was missing (like the lights, speedometer, side covers, chain guard, etc.), the frame was cracked, the forks were bent, and the seat was little more than a rag stretched over a slab of steel. However, it ran perfectly. Now it looks as good as it runs!

I agree with Foamy. Hondas are built to last, which is one of the reasons my husband and I didn't hesitate to buy the Elites. The key to keeping any vehicle happy is servicing it on time or before, just as you are doing. If Honda-anything does need parts, they are generally easy to come by. Just enjoy riding your baby and don't even give its longevity a second thought. As a general rule, being a Honda product, it's a given!! :D
