Will be picking up my new Buddy international tomorrow about 70 miles from where I live. How hard is it to lower the seat about 1 and a half inches so my feet are flat on the ground? This is my first scooter.

you can't manually lower the seat, you need to have it shaved down. its not difficult for a professional to do. ask your dealer for a recommendation; people do this all the time. be prepared to spend around $300. there are lots of options and the person doing the cut-down will work with you to make sure you get a proper fit.

good luck! and happy riding!

It is not essential to have your feet flat on a scooter, as long as you can reach the ground.
Why not try riding the scooter the way it is & read the posts here about what the other Divas do when they cannot flat foot ?
I cannot flat foot my Vino 125, but I can touch the ground with my toes and have mastered leaning the scooter against one leg, when I am stopped.

You can get a pair of good riding boots with a 1-1.5 inch heel-it will help you reach the ground better and also protect your feet :)
Not to mention the coolness factor ;)

I would not want to sacrifice the comfort of the seat just to flat foot.
If you decide to have the seat shaved, make sure you go to a professional to get it done.

I'd suggest waiting till you ride it awhile and the seat compresses from sitting on it.

I can't flat foot either but it isn't uncontrollable for me not to be able to.
One inch sounds like that could be the case for you.

I agree on waiting a few months before lowering the seat. I'm 5'2", and within the first month of riding my seat conformed to me much better, and I also learned to keep the bike upright with just one foot flat when needed.

Many posts on this site mention that shaving the seat down can be expensive and affect your comfort when riding later on, which is what made me wait before doing so. I'm glad I decided not to now.

I agree on feeling safe on your scooter.

I too am a short rider and cut my seat on two seats myself. It's not professional since it was out of my budget, but when I sit down, you can't tell I cut it!

Good luck!

I was told by Kevin at Motorsport Scooters in San Diego that low profile seats are available for Buddy scooters. I don't see them on their website but not everything they have access to is listed there. I would call and ask.

You can get a slightly shorter(1/2 inch or so) shock absorber I was told by Scooter Centrale in CT. The 1/2 inch one will shorten the seat 1 inch. I have a similar problem to find a bigger scooter than the 50cc I have that I can fit on and isn't too heavy for me. I'm 4'10".

I am also 5'2"with a 28" inseam and my original seat height was30.9". I paid my local upholsterer to replace the original foam at the front of my seat with a foam that maintained the original profile of the seat but was more easily compressed (squishier, is that a word?), $65.00.
(he does furniture, marine and MC stuff too) It works great. Good luck!

I know there is a step by step tutorial on how to lower your seat on ModernBuddy.com. Search for it. I am 5'6“ and still can't get both feet on the ground and cannot spend the $300. Maybe a local upholstery store could do it?

I'm 5"2' and also ride a Buddy. I can't flat foot mine either. I was concerned at first but I adjusted and am quite comfortable with the seat height as is. I agree with the other posters who suggest waiting.

You can cut it down yourself with an electric carving knife and then go buy marine grade vinyl at a fabric store ( JOANN FABRIC ) for about $10 a yard and then take it to an upholstery shop or boat store they shouldnt charge you more than $80 or so.

1/2" lower? Let some air out of the tires. Cost - $0.00
Just be sure they are at a safe pressure.
I can't flat foot my scooter, but I don't care. The center of gravity is pretty low, and it weighs less than 300 lbs soaking wet.
