My front wheel is squeaking at me. I'm completely clueless as to what it is. The brake? The suspension? Did I run over a mouse?
Can anyone point me at a good basic maintenance manual for Chinese scoots either in book form, in a forum or online?

Does it squeak all the time, or just when you put on the brakes? My front squeals when I use my front brakes. I asked them to check when I took it in for first service. They said with the Chibikes they use a cheaper type of metal for those front pads and it squeals ...nothing wrong .... I can make it NOT squeak if I apply my front brake a bit different.
If it is a constant squeak, it still may be that different metal on the front ... could be the front suspension fork with the same issue as the front brake.
I'd still get it checked, just to make sure. Could be just a matter of a little lube job.

This repair and service manual covers Twist-and-Go Scooters, 50 to 250cc with automatic transmission. Haynes Manuals, ISBN: 9781844256259
The cover says for Vespa, etc. but it covers everything! I have it and find it very useful Got mine on Ebay .

I'm with Jobo most likely brakes. Put your scooter up on it's center stand and rotate the front wheel. Is the squeak happening at a certain point in the revolution? Chi Scooters pretty much do this. If it is a serious rub (hanging up the wheel) it needs adjustment. If it is just a little squeak, normal.

Um, no...
I know I should get it looked at but I just don't have the cash right now. I put the scoot up on its center stand and spun the front wheel around and it squeaked the whole way 'round! It wasn't a metal squeak, though, it was a rubber squeak. I couldn't see the tire rubbing up against anything... I'll check tonight to see if there are any wear patterns that might suggest that.
Frankly, if I can't hear it when I'm riding, I tend to ignore it. I know that's a stupid and dangerous way to behave but I'm employing that wonderful human quality known as denial.
It's been braking fine and the suspension doesn't seem any worse than usual (such a bumpy scoot!) and I think it's actually squeaking less now than when I posted.
I'm being stupid, aren't I?

It's not squeaking anymore. SOOOOOoooo, I don't know what's going on. I'll schedule something with the local mechanic in October, a sort of post-inspection, 300 mile check-up.

Noises like that drive me nuts! Something somewhere must have been rubbing or something. Who knows maybe dirt in the wrong place and it fell out.

My friends brakes were squeaking and when we were at Motoworks in Chicago, the service staff there gave him a spray can of !st Ayd. #74A Brake and metal parts cleaner. They said he had dirt on the brakes.
He sprayed it onto a cloth and rubbed into on the circular brake plate on the wheel, rotating the wheel, and no more squeaks. They even gave him the can to take home and use whenever.

1st Ayd. #74A = 4 oz. aerosol can.
Metal Parts Cleaner efficiently cleans all metal parts. It does not contain chlorinated solvents that contaminate waste oil. Low odor. De-greases instantly, dries quickly and leaves no residue. Excellent for use as a brake parts cleaner. No ozone depleting chemicals. A best seller!

Hi, guys. I have a Chi scooter - Il Bello by Flyscooters - and I have the same problem. I've been into the dealer at least three times to have it looked at, each time they tighten everything up and then say the noise stopped. The first time, he used the brake cleaner, and it worked for a little while, then the squeak came back. I also notice that if I apply the brake differently, it disappears, and now it just happens occasionally. It doesn't impact performance at all, so sounds like it is okay to ignore?

Yes. I ignored it and it went away.
I, too, am new to scooters and I wig out at every new noise or shimmy or part falling off. I guess it'll take me a while to understand what needs to be addressed immediately and what can be safely ignored.
I wish there was a 'Welcome to your scooter' class here. I'd like to have a better idea of how it's supposed to idle, sound like, handle, etc.

I do recall that the end cap thingy on the left handlebar managed to work its way loose... but since all did was keep the end of the handlebar closed I just shoved it back in and hammered on it until it stayed put. It's a Chinese scooter, what can I say?
