I have decided to try the new Dual Compound tires made by Michelin. It's supposed to last much longer than standard motorcycle/scooter tires. I was in the Honda service department recently complaining about how much the Bridgestone Hoop tires had gone up since my last set. My rear Hoop tire last time cost me around $56.00 and now they were telling me it was $94.00, and that was just for the tire, not including the installation. It was all friendly complaining, and they like me, did not like how the tire companies had gone up on the sale of tires. They all ride motorcycles too. One of the men in the back happened to come in and get in on the conversation about the time I said they should make "Granny Tires" since we don't speed down the road and do "twisties" at 100 mph. He asked if I had heard about the new compound tires! He pointed out his huge motorcycle and said he is now on his second set of them. He got 28,000 miles out of the first set and now has 10,000 miles on the second set on the bike and cannot even see any wear on them at all. THIS got my attention for sure. I could not wait to get home, get on the Michelin Tire site to see if they make them for scooters......and Whahoooo they DOOOOOO!!!
From what I understand, the center of the tire is made out of a harder, longer lasting rubber like car tires. And the sides are still made of softer rubber for gripping in turns and curves! 90% of my riding is flat on the ground so the hard rubber will be a blessing. I have read many reviews about these tires and many say they like the way the grip the road when it is wet. That's a plus for me too since I ride in these FL rains many times. I only got 14,000 miles out of my Hoops so we will see how many I get with these Michelin Power Plus SC tires! I expect to get more than the young man who told me about them since my scoot is much lighter than his big motorcycle.........BUT only time will tell!!! There is a link below for any who might be interested in them. You can check right on that site to see if they make them for your scoot!
Mine are due to be in tomorrow afternoon and hope to get he rear one put on Friday! Going to hold the front since I still have a lot of tread left on it. Got to get the good out of it!!!
And for those who might ask, my hubby does not want me buying our tires online where you can get them somewhat cheaper!
