Does anyone have that fudge frosting recipe that used to be on the back of herseys cocoa boxes? It's the one made with just plain sugar and not powdered. It's been so long since I made it I can't remember how.

I checked the back of my cocoa can. There are two frosting recipes, one calling for powdered sugar and one for confectioners sugar, so I'm confused. I thought they were the same??? What you want is a recipe calling for granulated sugar, right?

Was it this one? (which is from 1934 - ??)
Fluffy Chocolate Icing
1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup water pinch cream of tartar 2 egg whites 1/4 cup Hershey's Cocoa 1/2 teaspoonful vanilla.
Dissolve the sugar in the water, and add the cream of tartar. Boil to the soft ball stage. (A small amount of mixture forms a soft ball when dropped into cold water, 234 degree F.) Beat egg whites until very stiff, then pour syrup in thin stream over them, beating all the time. Continue to beat until frosting is cool and of right consistency to spread, about 10 minutes. Carefully fold in cocoa and vanilla.

Thanks for looking Herseys has a different recipe on the boxes now.... The fudge frosting recipe I'm looking for is cooked and poured over a sheet cake. It firms up like fudge. If I find it Ill post it.
