This is the one book that every scooterist should own.

Reading this book is like having a highly experienced motorcycle expert giving you the benefit of a lifetime of experience on the subject. It contains many chapters with illustrations that explain just about everything you should know about riding safe and well.

The top-selling motorcycling book of the decade, Proficient Motorcycling, zooms back into stores in this updated, expanded, and colorfully illustrated new edition. With easy-to-understand instructions and diagrams, nationally renowned motorcycling expert David L. Hough lays out a clear course for novice and seasoned bikers alike who want to sharpen their handling skills for a safer, more enjoyable ride.
Inside this book you'll find invaluable information on:

* How motorcycles really work
* Riding city streets and country roads
* Dealing with common (and uncommon) hazards
* Avoiding manmade booby traps and canine pursuers
* Surviving nature's challenges (rain, wind, heat, cold)
* Safely riding in groups and carrying passengers
* Clothing offering the best protection

With this 2nd edition, you'll also get a free CD with 144 bonus pages of instruction.

This book is highly recommended! I'll have to rate this 4 crowns!

David Hough was recently inducted into the Motorcycling Hall of Fame!

His other book, "Street Strategies: A Survival Guide for Motorcyclists" is also a must-have for anyone who "rides the streets."

...and we're proud that he and his wife live in our neighborhood! He's hard to miss seeing him riding locally on his bright yellow CanAm Spyder!

I wish I'd known that! I just made a huge order (over $700) for various things I was needing from Amazon. When the check came in that allowed me to order my scooter, I also ordered other things.

I hope I remember that later. I order from Amazon a lot. I am a member of Amazon Prime. Of course, I might order less now that I can actually leave my house without begging someone to come get me!

Denise

I think I'll put that book on my wishlist

Hi denise,
I would suggest you put Dave Hough's books at the very top of that Wish List!
They are invaluable resources for riding on two wheels.

I also found the DVD's by Jerry "Motorman" Palladino to be excellent. I own "Ride Like a Pro III," "Ride Like a Pro IV," and "Surviving the Mean Streets." I love them all. They definitely helped me a lot in my days of motorcycling, and many of his wise words still ring in my head when I'm riding the scooter; such as: "Do not apply your brakes in a turn. It will pull you down like a magnet." :)

I did a quick search and his DVD's seem to be available through Amazon. I'm not sure if any newer ones are out since I purchased mine about 6+ years ago. I, too, own Proficient Motorcycling by David L. Hough and I agree that everyone on 2 wheels should own a copy.
