This is the original recipe from Alton Brown on Good Eats
* 3 cups rolled oats
* 1 cup slivered almonds
* 1 cup cashews
* 3/4 cup shredded sweet coconut
* 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
* 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons maple syrup
* 1/4 cup vegetable oil
* 3/4 teaspoon salt
* 1 cup raisins
Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.
In a large bowl, combine the oats, nuts, coconut, and brown sugar.
In a separate bowl, combine maple syrup, oil, and salt. Combine both mixtures and pour onto 2 sheet pans. Cook for 1 hour and 15 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes to achieve an even color.
Remove from oven and transfer into a large bowl. Add raisins and mix until evenly distributed.

Now when I make granola:
3 Pounds of old fashioned oats
the liquid ingredients I dont measure anymore, so here is a guestimate:
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup pancake syrup
1 tablespoon maple flavoring (maple syrup is way expensive in Oklahoma

)
1/3 cup molasses
1/3 to 1/2 cup honey
I dump the whole 3 pound container of oats in a large stainless steel bowl
I mix all the liquids together and pour over the oats and stir well
Leaving the oats in the Large metal bowl, place in 250 degree oven for the hour and 15 minutes stirring about every 15 minutes.
when the oats are done, add:
small package dried apricots, chopped
couple cups of pecans, chopped course
pound of raisins
big cup of craisins
cup or so of sunflower kernels (seeds without hulls)
This amount of granola will fill two, one gallon freezer bags
I have added, dried apples, banana chips, dried pear, dried mango, just any dried fruit that fits my mood that time.
This is great over vanilla yogurt for breakfast
