SPSP is planning a scooter maintenance workshop, hopefully to be taught by a local scooter mechanic who just wants to get some of us out of his hair over little problems he doesn't need in his shop anyway... has anyone here ever done this or been to one of these?

Sounds like a neat idea. You would think the scooter mechanic would be happy for business in this day and age. Learn to do more on your own, and you won't need that mechanic except for inspections. I'm all for learning new things!!

I have seen posts about this very thing at Modern Vespa and it looks like they are not only informative, but fun! I know that something like this would save me $$$$ on something simple like an oil change. Does anyone know this mechanic personally? Everyone seemed to know the dealership/mechanic that hosted a workshop like this over at Modern Vespa. I say sign up for it!

Yes, the first mechanic that comes to mind is OUR mechanic. I heard through the grapevine that he wants to be something else when he grows up, so he won't mind losing some biz showing us what to do. He was so good to us, we gave him a tip in his Christmas card...

The scooter maintenance workshop is a reality. It is next Sunday at Seminole Scooters in Pinellas Park, FL. The mechanic has worked on both of our scooters. Several people have signed up.

I'd be there for sure!
I'm getting ready to pay a scooter mechanic by the hour to give me some maintenance basics so yours looks like a way better deal.

I'm thinking it is... ours is free, except for the refreshments. We're planning to put some soda pop on ice for the mechanics and the members. The shop isn't air conditioned. We simply asked them if they'd be interested, and they said yes, so we gave them a list of questions posed by some of the members of our club. They'll put a scooter on the lift, and go from there. This shop gives all our members a 10% discount, because we promote safe riding, and send them business.

As I was leaving the scooter shop the other day I was thinking that they should have a Ladies Garage party. The mechanic is great and showed me simple things like how to kick start it. Can I ask how it went and what kinds of things the mechanic showed?

Yes, It was great. They did turn on what little AC the shop has. They provided soft drinks, and had a drawing for some nice gifts. The workshop took place in the shop area. We had a German trained Master mechanic, who showed us proper tire pressure, proper oil check, oil change, belt inspection, and how to remove a plastic panel without damage. More to come at the next one. I'm sure there was some other stuff, but I've already forgotten it. I posted some pics in our gallery at stpeteslowpokes.com
