Take care and be careful, have you taken a motorcycle safety class yet? I'm still aching and feel a little banged up but I'll live. No, haven't taken a class because it's not required here (scooters 50 ccs and under do not require a motorcycle license, just a regular driver's license). TurtleVespa, I was literally JUST looking at that jacket before I looked at your post, hahaha! I like that yellow one because it reminds me of Game of Death and Kill Bill, hahaha. I should invest in something like that jacket though. The shipping cost is a little steep so I'm going to see if I can find something at a local store...in other words, my search will continue or I'll just end up ordering from that site.

Sorry to hear your are having scoot issues and glad you are ok after your spill. I know your scoot is smaller and does not require a license but it is well worth taking the Motorcycle course just to learn how to handle your bike and and how to respond in an emergency even if you do not pass it it is still well worth the money. Vespa used to offer a deal for the course if your purchased through them, I believe it only cost $99 instead of the approx. $300 I would certainly ask them.
For armour jackets there is a motorcycle shop in Headingly that carried a fairly large supply of Jackets, gloves, helmets and some boots they did have some item on sale when I was ther e a couple of weeks ago. There is a honda sport and leisure dealer on Dougald Rd in Transcona ( located just over the bridge on the right) I have not been there yet. There is also a shop called JM sports (not sure of the exact name) on Mains st. Again I have never been there only heard about it, they are supposed to sells equip as well. A new shop has opened on Mcgillvery and the Perimeter too, not sure they sell equip. but is fairly close to you may be worth giving them a call. You could also just purchase a pair of work boots with steel toes from Marks Work Warehouse they have good quality boots at fairlyreasonable prices.
Hope this has helped you out.
Take care

Thanks for the reply, Arlene. When the dealership calls me back about repairing Starscream (took him in today), I'll ask if they still offer that course. Otherwise, I'll just continue practicing as I don't presently have $300 kicking around to take the motorcycle course. I found a scooter driver manual online that was really helpful, but actually doing something is usually the way I learn. My response to the wipeout was to look around to make sure no one saw *lol*, get up, dust myself off, get the scooter back up, and get back on to get going. Right turns are what I need the most work on. A friend of mine who just got a motorcycle has told me to look on the ground to where I want to go as opposed to what I don't want to hit, that way my body will aim to where I want and thus the scooter will as well. Practicing tilting my center of gravity will also help. I think I have a hard time with right turns because they're so sharp compared to left turns, the accelerator is on the right so it makes me nervous that I'll accidentally rev too much, and that I'm relying on my left arm to steer when I'm right-handed. I'll try to find info on that McGillivray dealership. Thanks for that tip! Is that Enns Brothers you're thinking of or a different location? I know Enns Brothers has started to sell scooters so maybe they have gear, too. Otherwise maybe I could convince my partner to come on a "road trip" with me to Headingly, hahaha! - Holly

Hi again Holly
If you can get the deal for $99 for the mc course I would really considerate for your own safety. Just to warn you make sure you do not go over the speed limit set for a 50cc because you will get stopped and probable ticket and have to take the mc course anyway whether your bike is listed as moped or not. If you go to the Announcements sections here on scooter diva there is a link for MSF Riding Tips that may be helpful as well. You are not alone with the right turns I have always hated turning right and with my bigger bike feel like I am starting all over again when it comes to them. You can also check out you tube they have alot of good information and show you how to do turns etc. I think the Enns mc shop is a different place the one I was talking about is calledGriffin Trikes amd Motorsport at 145 Oakland Rd. Oak Bluff 1 block North of Mcgilvery and Perimeter ph 832 4979 I do not know if they have gear though.
Good luck

I've ordered a proper jacket so hopefully it'll be here next week. Providing the weather is decent, I'm hoping to go pick up Starscream from the dealership tomorrow. Let's hope he doesn't stall on me again and it's a smooth ride from now on!

Ellen wrote: How is Starscream feeling? Thanks for asking, Ellen. Unfortunately, the dealership's mechanics are completely incompetent. They decided to "patch up" the float in the carburetor (it had a small hole in it which caused it to fill with too much gas and flood itself) which is not something that can be done; they have to be replaced. Anyway, they suggested this "patch up" will hold long enough until the part comes in (roughly a week or so). I got Starscream last Wednesday which was a bad day to do so as the wind was gusting up to 65 km/h. Ugh. Anyway, got home safe and alive so that was a good start. Went for a scoot on Friday and it was fine. Saturday, I went to start Starscream up and there were all sort of issues (namely stalling again). I got it going and headed toward my sister's place as her husband is a mechanic and he was the one who spotted the problem in the first place. Just as I pulled into their driveway, Starscream stalled. *sigh* Gas was leaking everywhere which was NOT happening before I took it in to the dealership. My brother in-law looked it over and said it didn't look like the mechanics tightened everything back up properly. He took the float out and, sure enough, the "patch job" consisted of nothing more than glue (it actually looks like hot glue) and, of course, it just peeled right off because gas is corrosive. I left a couple of voicemail messages at the dealership which would have been riddled with profanities had my 6 year old niece not been standing next to me, haha. My brother in-law emptied the float, because it was more full of gas than before I took it in, and put a more appropriate patch on (a poxy that won't be corroded by gas) so that I could get home. The dealership has said the part should be in "any day now" (I'll believe that when I see it) and they will deliver the part to me so I can have my brother in-law install because after this I clearly can't trust their workmanship. So angry! Everyone is out driving their scooters but me.

Hi Starscream
I noticed your last post was April 20 and you were expecting a part in from Vespa. Did you get it in and repaired? Will getting your brother in law to do the work affect your warranty? Hope you are up and running again.

Cool scooter! I really like the color. Re: jackets- I have a Corazzo 5.0 that I really love. Check them out at corazzo.com. They also sell gloves. Some of which have a carbon fiber knuckle.
Happy scooting!

Yes, I was rather shocked to discover that I was having trouble with right turns at first. I figured out that I was looking at the traffic, rather than where I wanted to go! It was only on one turn, the one where I was turning onto the most traveled road on my practice route. It took me a few tries to get it right. When you aren't nervous you do better. It has been over 30 years since the last time I was on two wheels, but you never really forget. I just needed to relax a little.
