Im a newbie! I just got my first scooter yesterday a Kymco Like 150.
I haven't ridden it yet because I haven't gotten any riding gear yet. I know the basic necessities, helmet/gloves/proper foot wear/jacket... but i was wondering if there are any other things that an experienced rider wouldn't leave home with out.
Thank you so much! And any suggestions of where to get even the basics from would be greatly appreciated too! <3

With the heat that we are having, I like to carry: 1. a baseball cap 2. sunscreen & insect repellant 3. a bottle of water
And I wear my sunglasses with my full coverage helmet.

I carry all the above and a tire repair kit with a small air compressor.Which really wasn't any help on my trip this week, when my tire separated from the rim. Still had my ATM card and cell phone and water . Yet you can't be too prepared.

I have to ask what you consider is proper foot wear? To me that means over the ankle leather boots because a gal on here didn't have these and was in a recent crash and the road ate through her shoe and nearly lost a toe.

Ear plugs. Hearing loss is a very real concern from the noise while riding. I keep them in a little container on my scooter's key ring.
I'd also like to know more about footwear. The young lady who had the recent accident said she had on hiking boots. I'm guessing they were fabric, not leather. I wear pretty heavy duty Docs for riding and I hope they'd hold up to an accident, but I'm not sure.

I also have rethought my footwear choice after reading about the accident. I have narrowed my choice down to either the Icon Tarmac or perhaps the Icon chukka. The Tarmac is apperently designed for warm weather - and neither look too much like "motorcycle boots". They even have a WHITE model - whoah, ...what a concept! http://www.rideicon.com/product_details ... 2&id=11983

I wear leather boots up to my mid calf. They have heavy soles. I am going to get some motorcycle boots, but can only do so much with $$.
So far my gear consists of : My helmet, textile riding jacket, riding gloves, buying pants just haven't found ones I like and then next boots.
Any boot is better than a sneaker. I believe she was wearing sneaks. When I wiped out I was wearing a leather shoe and it flew off my foot when my heel hit the pavement, now I know there the extra shoe in the road comes from. I talked to a paramedic I know and she says she has seen badly fractured ankles even in motorcycle boots, but at least it keeps everything together for the most part. Kevlar pants she cautioned me against because you can't cut them with scissors they would have to be pulled over a broken leg. OUCH! Sticking to textile or leather.

Small tool kit. Most scooters and motorcycles use a lot of 10mm bolts so make sure you have a socket and or wrench in that size in case you have to tighten anything up.
Sun screen. Don't count on your helmet to protect your face skin from UV. You will also want protection off bike when you take off your gear, especially if you intend to be outside a lot.
Boots. I wear over the ankle for my scooter but I also have mid calf Harley Davidson boots that I wear. I have to admit that the over the ankle are more comfortable and I wear them more.
Don't laugh, get steel toed boots if you can for the extra protection.
Small collapsible gas can.
