I always drive with GPS. Problem is car GPS's are not ideal for bikes. Some were pricey and the thought of paying $399.00 for motorcycle GPS does not sit well with most, me in particular. I am cheap. that is how I survive. If I can find a way to recycle or adapt something that I already have to work elsewhere - I will do it in a minute. GPS however was a challenge. My Tomtom is great in the car, street names, turn by turn -the works. But...bluetooth does not connect to bluetooth receivers or helmets. What it is for at all is a mystery. Searching around I found that most GPS manufacturers took out earphone jacks out of their GPS units except some that have MP3 players built in. I understand the reasoning. They want us riders to shell out $400 for new motorcycle GPS units. I kept looking for GPSs units with MP3 player that may hopefully have earphone jack. Finally found an older (2006-2007) Magellan GPS unit (Roadmate 2200T).Not only does it have earphone jack but it is also waterproof. No map updates unless form a 3rd party but I ride side roads and those rarely change. I use small earbud type earphones (one side only) It fits under the helmet. I do the same thing with my telephone on longer rides with phone set to answer automatically. the GPS unit was $54.00 with shipping. It has some very minor scratches (nowhere near "like new" as seller claimed) but it works and for the money it is I believe the best solution. I found how to make GPS case for the mountain bike on Youtube and I think it will work just as well for my GPS unit. I will post osme pics once I am done with the set-up

This sounds like something I have been looking for also. I put a lot of miles on my scoot and this results in a lot of pull overs just to look at my directions. Would love to see pics!!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us Stormswift!

I've been using a cheap refurb Garmin auto GPS mounted on a RAM mount for a couple of years. I have an older one with a headphone jack that I plug into helmet speakers. It is not water proof but I put a plastic bag over it or just take it off in rain (we don't get a lot so it isn't a big deal here). So far the weakest point is the wire running between the GPS and my helmet. After twisting about in the wind for awhile the wires break down and I have to get a new wire. When I got it I didn't have a Bluetooth headset. We upgraded our bike to bike communication when Cardo discontinued the old version of the Scala rider so if/when I need to replace the GPS I will get get a bluetooth version and it should connect up fine.

Alter, thanks. My Tomtom has bluetooth but it would not connect to my bluetooth earpeice that I got for my phone. If those 2 worked together I would have been on cloud 9 and did not need to buy another GPS. I am figuring though that for a little over $50 I will have a unit dedicated to riding. I like features in Tomtom but Magellans have by far the faster satellite lock I have ever seen. That might come in handy if I am ever lost in places that do not feel safe

I bought a zippered case meant to weather proof a GPS on a bicycle off ebay, in the hopes it will work on the scoot. I haven't tried it yet, but if I remember right, it was only like $20. I'll have to look and see if my Sony GPS has a headphone jack. I "thought" it did...or maybe I "assumed"...and you know what that means, lol.
I have a love/hate relationship with my GPS. I am still old fashioned enough to appreciate maps, and find that when I use the GPS, I follow it blindly and lose my "sense" of direction. I almost prefer to do it the old fashioned way.

Yes. It was about $2.00 actually. I wanted something that had those extra snaps on all 4 sides. I will also attach Velcro hoodie to reduce the glare and Velcro snaps on each side just to be sure the box does not open

But what about the power source? My GPS doesn't seem to have that much battery power. I don't know if the battery would last more than 2 or 3 hours.
