So I have decided to sell my baby Kymco. I just posted an ad late last night and was surprised to see 4 people are interested in it today! Had an offer for $500, and a couple others could do $600. To anyone experienced with selling stuff I was wondering a few things: - I am asking $700 for it. I paid almost $800 in July '09. With the things I've added and fixed it seems like a fair price to me. What do you think?
- Is there anything else I should do before I sell it? (Wash, wax, etc. I guess so its at its best looking.)
This is my first time selling anything on CL, I've only ever bought stuff.

I always wash/clean up my vehicles before I show them to potential buyers. Not saying you HAVE to but my stuff sells quick, usually to the first person that looks at it and for a decent price so I think it works. A clean bike not only looks better it looks like it belongs to someone that takes care of their stuff. Never agree to a lower price from someone that hasn't come to look at it. I don't take anyone that hasn't come out to see it seriously. How can they know the value?? It might be junk it might be golden, they haven't seen it, they don't know.

I have never sold anything on CL but purchased 3 Honda Reflex's a few months ago from 3 different sellers. And from a buyers prospective, cleaning them up can make a huge difference. Also, pay notice to where you sit the scoot for pictures. Find a nice clean and clear place to get the photo. Some I saw for sale sitting in a really nasty, grease covered garage with all kinds of parts laying beside it, and in the background, I didn't even consider going to look at those. Presentation is important I think.
Also, something you might want to consider. I hear many say that when they sell they do not let the buyers come to their home. They choose to meet them somewhere else because they do not want the potential buyer knowing where the scoot is kept. This keeps those looking to come back after dark to steal it at bay. This is does not help if you take a picture of it at your home and post it on CL. Photos today have GPS embedded right in the photo. So if your concerned about that, ride the scoot somewhere away from your home to get the picture to post on CL. This is not a concern for everyone but it's worth knowing before you post photo's on CL.
Good luck with your sale!

You'll likely meet all kinds of people with CL...including the ones who want to play email Q&A back and forth 20 times, the ones who want to know how little you'll take and never hear from them again, and the one who swears they just have to have it and will be there tomorrow and never show up. I figure if someone's serious they will include their phone and ask you to call them. I do not give out my contact information until I have theirs. Make sure the bike is clean and ready to go. Offer service records if you have them. Advertise that it has been well taken care of, and is a strong running and dependable means of transportation. In your state, if it can be ridden without a motorcycle endorsement, that may be an attraction, as will the little amount of gas used. Also, we scooter divas know how much a scooter can really carry, but a newbie might not have a clue they can grocery shop with one. I would also say you almost always ask more than what you want, and expect to come down a bit. Most every buyer will expect you to. Even if it's only $50. Otherwise, make sure your ad says "firm." If you're not familiar with Kymco's history, which is good, maybe Google and read about how they were under Honda's wing for years, and are one of the major powersports companies in the world...not everyone is familiar with the brand, which is still relatively new to the US. Now....what are you going to replace the baby Kymco with?

thanks for all your input! i will shine it up real nice (well, as nice as its going to get, the paint was majorly faded when i got it.) i set it on the battery tender last night to make sure that it has a good charge and will start strong. i've also picked a nice shopping center with a good parking lot and lots of people around to show it at. i hope to sell it by the end of the week and have some extra $$ for my upcoming wedding! won't be replacing it, as i already have the gts 250ie which is my primary transportation. plus i can always take Dad's ET4 out for a spin.
