Two days ago I was attempted to turn my scooter around in a small space in our driveway. I opened the throttle a bit too far, did not successfully complete the turn, gave a hard pull on the right, totally lost control and sideswiped the neighbour's brick house. Oh the pain of it all!! My beautiful new scooter had this ugly gash on the front, a nick on the handlebars, and a scrape on the headlight. It was horrifying. I was trying to turn around in my driveway, in between my son's truck and the neighbour's hedge. It ended badly. I parked my poor scooter in the garage and went to work day. I felt so bad! When I came home from work my husband told me that he saw our neighbour outside and went over and talked to him about my accident. Now here's the interesting part, my neightbour is the auto body mechanic in our town! His name is Mark. Mark came over and inspected the damage and said to bring my scooter to the body shop tomorrow and he could get everything fixed. Yesterday I saw Mark in the grocery store and he told me my scooter was fixed. It was only in his shop for a day. This morning before work, my husband drove me to his shop to pick it up and it looks brand new. I was so happy. Wow, and I ever going to be careful after this experience.

I guess if you were going to run into anyone's house you picked the right one. Don't be too hard on yourself it could hapen to anyone. I have seen lots of boo boos & mishaps at the motorcycle course the last 2 weekends. Little things quickly become big things. I had an emergency stop which turned into a panic stop.

Don't feel bad. I ran into our minivan the second week I had my first scooter. Did the same thing and opened the throttle too much. Looked at car, hit car. Man was I embarrassed. My husband still teases me about it. The car had a scratch, I did a weeks worth of body work on the scoot.

Lesson learned, where you look, you go. Pure and simple.

I agree with HC. You have a great neighbor.

One of my classmates at the motorcycle class was in the middle of a huge arking turnand instead of looking at the end of the turn she looked where the motorcycle was at the moment and ended up in the ditch with the bike on top of her. She missed a giant rock by about a foot and a half she was lucky. They were picking grass and twigs out of the frame & engine area of the bike. She said she now knows what they mean when they say Look where you want to go & end up.

I'm sitting here reading these, laughing, and also remembering years ago when I tried to teach a friend how to ride on my Honda C70 Passport. We thought she had it; she was in a parking lot....bordered by a 6' tall wooden privacy fence. She looked at the fence, headed for the fence, panicked, gave it throttle, and bounced along the fence several times before landing. She was worried about the scoot, but once I knew SHE was ok, I had to laugh. A lot. (I was young!)

Happy Camper: He is a great neighbour. It's kind of cool to live next door to a autobody mechanic, whenever we need work done on our van or truck, Mark is only a few steps away! :D

Dear Island: I felt really bad the day I did that, my scooter is only six weeks old. I thought, how could I be so stupid! Anyway, it has taught me a good lesson. In my motorcycle handbook that I had to study before writing the test it said accidents happen in the first 3 months and I thought that would never happen to me. Well, I should of known.

Bexx, thanks, for the words of encouragement. I looked at the house and I ran into the house.
Hey, does that mean I am no longer a Virgin?

Island Diva, wow that must of been scary for the rider. I am glad everything turned out okay and it was a good lesson learned. I have learned too.

Happy Camper, I had to laugh when I read your story. I wonder why, when we were are faced with a crisis we always open up the throttle? How ridiculas! I know I just panicked and I guess that is what happens to us all. :D
