Yesterday I replanted my large pot with some new flowers. I'm hopeful that I don't end up killing these guys. I just can't seem to keep plants alive. Sometimes I wonder if my house is where plants come to die just like that commercial (will have to find it.) Just dabbling in container gardening for now. Please feel free to show off your garden or plants! Sorry about the pictures, I took them with my phone. Attachment:

Dahlias, garden mums, baby's tears, and 2 others i've forgotten the names of already.. I also got a bonus earthworm with the pot of baby's tears! Attachment:

Some of my favorite people are flowers and plants! I tell the local greenhouse/garden center employees that they have the best job on earth. They get to work outside, dig in the dirt and plant flowers! Makes me question my sanity for becoming a nurse.
I love what you have done with your planters. It's a little too early here to plant much outside, even though we had a very warm March, April is starting out to be seasonable. They are even calling for frost tomorrow night. Time to slap the rose cones back down. Some people have jumped the gun and planted tomatoes already. I'm too familiar with mid west springs, so I'll wait. Hopefully I'll be able to add some picks in a month or two when things really get in bloom around here.

Never knew anyone to "ADD" spanish moss to a tree! WHERE does that stuff come from??? Does it cross the border of Spain at night when we are not looking? Want some FREE moss? Here in FL we do all that we can to "REMOVE IT" from our trees! NOT ADD IT!!! Hehehe
BUT I have to admit it, it looks right purty hanging in your little kukui nut tree! Nice pics too!

Has anyone tried aquaponics? Its a fish/plants combo. Basic Idea is water in the fish tank is passed to the plants via tubes and the fish poo is the fertilizer for the plants to grow. The plants then filter the water to go back into the fish tank via more tubes and the cycle starts all over again. Kind of self contained. You grow your own fish and vegs without chemicals. Kind of a nifty idea.

Kind of a nifty idea. Yes! I used to design and create my own koi ponds. The use of plants in aquatics helps stabilize the ecology of your pond and promotes waste reduction and water clarity. Beware if you have gold fish or koi, however, there is nothing they like better than a good salad with their bugs! As for removing your dead blossoms, yes by all means do! It is called dead heading and helps promote re-blossoming and plant growth. Here is a pic of my pride and joy. Not the best photo. It was taken with my cell phone last fall. I raised this Christmas Cactus from a pup to be grand champion at the local fall festival flower show. It is still going strong and blooms regularly every year around Thanksgiving. How'd you get the orchids to bloom for you?!

People in Hawaii seem to love Spanish Moss. Someone near me has some that they've grown ridiculously long in their front yard. I'll have to take a picture. I bought my moss from Home Depot. I figured it'd be something hard for me to kill. From Wikipedia: Quote: In Hawaii, Spanish moss is typically referred to as ʻUmiʻumi-o-Dole, named for Governor Sanford B. Dole's beard.[6] It was introduced to Hawaii in the 19th century, and became a popular ornamental and lei plant. Recently it is occasionally called "Pele's hair" after Pele the Hawaiian goddess. The term "Pele's hair" usually refers to a type of filamentous volcanic glass. Did a little more research and found this: Quote: Kaho‘olawe’s emblem is a perennial herb called hinahina (Heliotropium anomalum var. argenteum).
Hinahina grows on the beach above the high water line, and has hairy, silvery-green leaves and stems, and fragrant white flowers with yellow centers. The leaves and flowers of hinahina are twisted into open-ended garlands.
Today the non-native Spanish moss (also called Florida moss, gray beard, and hinahina) is often substituted for the native hinahina.
(See Hinahina in Island Flowers and Lei section, Chapter 3; and Native Plants and Ferns of the Hawaiian Islands, Chapter 8; also see Spanish Moss in Island Flowers and Lei section, Chapter 3.) I will cut the buds off tomorrow and hope for more flowers in the future! Maybe that's why my other plants never made it. I just left the flowers on there to fall off on their own.

Interesting... Around here folks tend to associate Spanish moss with chiggers and other annoying forms of Carolina wildlife.
