The scooter race across the country that is NOT a race....

If I wasn't having major plumbing issues at the moment (putting the bathroom back together after asking out cabinets and drilling through slab to get to a leak), I might have driven up to Savannah to see them off. Some of the club I belong to here in north FL registered, and then all got kicked out as a group, with no discussion. That left a rather sour taste in everyone's mouth here. But I know a few of the other riders, so I was thinking about going up anyway. Oh, well.

It was sooooooooooo EPIC! I watched it unfold over on MV.
I'm totally inspired to go to 2014 Cannonball (assuming that the world doesn't actually end and the Mayan's just stopped carving their calendar because 5000 years seems like enough time for someone else to make one.) If I can figure out a way to buy one (on the super cheap) and then store it someplace I think I could do this.

Buying one the cheap is a good place to start, but then you have to go over the scoot from top to bottom to get it ready. New performance parts, new tires. Spare ties. Tires for pavement, tires for dirt. There's a ton of extra work and equipment you need to do to make the trip. A lot of prep, a lot of spare parts, a lot of work along the way. You need an auxiliary tank or a way to carry extra fuel, you need a navigate system, you need to have or sign up with a support vehicle, you need to figure out how to get you and your scooter back home. There's a lot more work and a lot more expense to a Cannonball than most realize.

Having said all that, it would be a heck of a ride, and by all means, if you're inspired, start planning and plotting now!
