FASHION MEETS FUNCTION

THIS TIME IT’S TRUE!  FOR REAL!  HONEST!

Let’s give a big THANKS! to the lady pictured to your right.  Meet Arlene Battishill, founder of Scooter Girls Inc. GoGo Gear.  Arlene has an amazing gift in the world of womens’ riding apparel -- she actually listens!  Not only has she listened - she has spent months working tirelessly to make our riding needs a reality.

ScooterDiva met up with Arlene at the NYC 2010 International Motorcycle Show.   Maybe I shouldn’t say we met up…. more like we followed in her wake as she flew back and forth helping women try on coats and jackets, taking measurements, giving out literature.  One thing immediately became clear as we watched Arlene - she listened to each and every customer, took notes, asked questions, learned about their needs.  Arlene really cares.

Hologram Coat
We checked out prototypes of coats and jackets that will be coming out in Spring 2010 and beyond.  By far the most eye-catching was the Hologram coat - a military-style trench coat that looks like shiny vinyl holographic material, but is actually a sturdy water-proof fabric.  This coat has top-quality CE approved armor in all the right places - elbows, shoulders, back.  The reversible belt has reflective details for night riding.

This is a coat you could easily wear into the office or a night out.  We also admired a  stylish cordura jacket in both long and short versions (imagine having the choice!).  We loved the reflective collar and fashionable reflective details on this jacket and noticed many women seemed to like this particular style.

Next in the lineup was a reversible belted military coat with oodles of reflective material on one side for night-riding visibility.  And we drooled over the adorable blue-and white polka-dot raincoat!  So cute but functional and practical too.  For those of us who love the vintage look, there is a darling double-breasted coat in a vintage print.    You would never guess this coat is engineered for safety with armor underneath.  Oh and there’s the “bark” coat, in an abrasion-resistant bark-patterned fabric.

We also got a sneak peek at the 2011 lineup.  All we can say is -- you’ll flip over the new styles Arlene has in store for us!  This gal is so creative!  You’re gonna love the new high-viz print!

Ok, we know what you’re thinking.  What about riding pants??  Fashionable and protective riding pants that don’t make me look like a Weeble?  Pants I can actually wear into work, or shopping?  Pants that fit “real” womens’ figures, not just models?  Arlene has you covered, so to speak!  She’s working on a Kevlar jean-style riding pant that is reasonably priced and stylish.  Oh and there’s more.  Arlene tells us her next project is a zip-off riding pant for cold and wet weather, and a warm-weather mesh version as well.

She’s listening to us.  We thank her for that.  And we thank her for her hard work and creativity.  Be assured that whatever your riding gear needs are, Arlene is striving to make those needs a reality.
